The Tropicana Resort and Casino is a stone's throw from the Park, set amid five acres of tropically landscaped grounds, pools, lagoons and waterfalls. It offers a rare culinary journey, with five onsite restaurants offering delectable Japanese, Caribbean and international cuisine.

Grab a coffee at the Sundance Bar and Grill ( Silverton Hotel and Casino , Blue Diamond Road). Their brick oven pizzas are a treat! Located one block on the Strip, the Silverton is good value for a stay and offers a deli and a buffet open from 7 am to 10:30pm.

Las Vegas has a way of stoking your appetite for the bigger, richer and the glitzier. The Rio (Flamingo Rd.) has a unique way of satisfying it. Its five fine-dining restaurants and ten casual dining spots are worth checking out. But the real star is undoubtedly the Carnival World Buffet - the largest buffet in Vegas and one of the finest.

The Voodoo café and lounge at the 51 st floor offer a scintillating view of Las Vegas. The Rio also stages one of the best FREE shows in Vegas.

Another famed attraction is The Fremont Street Experience , a stone's throw from the Golden Nugget . If you're lucky you might get to stay at one of their Victorian-style redecorated rooms overlooking the distant Sierra Nevada Mountains. But for now you have food on your mind, so head for one of the five luxurious onsite restaurants.

From The Rio at Flamingo Rd. take the Rancho Drive to get to the Nevada Zoological Park , where your brush with the big cats should whet your hunger for the "Feast from around the world" buffet at Texas Station (Texas Star Lane). Situated within a kilometer off the Park, Texas Station has many onsite offerings for your dining pleasure- including Austin's steakhouse, San Lorenzo Italian Restaurant for fine dining, Texas Star Oyster Bar and Texas Café.

For a taste of history, head for the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. Built in 1906, it's the oldest on Fremont Street. The Golden Gate was the first to serve the famous shrimp cocktail, which can still be had for 99 cents at their Shrimp Bar and Deli. The Bay City Diner is another great value, loved for its outstanding traditional entrees.

With so much to sample, Las Vegas is rapidly emerging as a culinary capital, catering to different tastes and pocketbooks.
